| By 'just the thing' I mean that
we had probably been considering other fertility programmes but
always fell at the hurdle of, 'was it acceptable to our Catholic
beliefs?' Of course it was not but they had seemed to be the only
option.
The meeting was presented to two distinct groups
of people those who believed it could help them and those who
wished to promote the programme by a medical practitioner working
for the charity. The presentation delivered a scheme that to our
understanding was ethical and moral when compared to others and
was not being driven by an organization with a commercial goal.
What was presented at this meeting is known
as Natural Family Planning and in the format offered by Life follows
research in the USA and adopted by Life because it fully meets
with their modus operandi.
The program encourages ladies to understand
themselves and to work closely with their husband to understand
charting and so encourages more directly and subtly
an environment to achieve conception than that procedure commonly
referred to as IVF. NFP is a contract of love whereas IVF is more
invasive with the implanting of more eggs than can be supported
to life. So when analysis suggested the need for medical support
only that necessary to support the identified need was provided.
Our relationship became closer as we opened
ourselves to the challenges of the programme, its support and
to God the reality of 'Your will be done' . . . more
